Aircon Installation Singapore
CHECKLIST FOR PROPER INSTALLATION OF AIR-CONDITIONING SYSTEM TO OPTIMISE ENERGY EFFICIENCY PERFORMANCE
INDOOR UNIT
Selection
Choose the right capacity.
Oversized compressors cut in and out too often and more current would be drawn.
Undersized compressors run continuously, resulting in higher running cost.
Of the two types of indoor units i.e. cassette ceiling and wall mounted , wall mounted type is sufficient for a typical household.
Aircon Installation, Singapore: Things to Consider
Avoid placing in direct sunlight
Placing the indoor unit too high will result in more area to be cooled
Keep the air inlet and outlet clear of any obstacles to ensure proper airflow.
Operation and Maintenance
Close all windows and doors when the air-conditioning is turned on.
Avoid frequent on and off.
Clean air filters regularly
Maintain the indoor unit regularly to prevent dirt build-up, which could affect its cooling performance.
OUTDOOR UNIT
Aircon Installation, Singapore
Place away from direct sunlight. Where possible, install protective awning
Leave sufficient space around the outdoor unit for proper heat dissipation. If using multiple outdoor units, ensure that they are not placed too close to each other.
Do not block the fan opening as this would restrict the amount of air drawn by the fan to cool the heat exchanger.
Use the correct refrigerant.
Maintenances
During regular maintenance, clean the condenser fins to ensure good heat rejection from the condenser.
PIPING
Selection
Use the correct pipe size
Pipe thickness can range from 0.6mm to 0.8mm, depending on the refrigerant used.
Pipe diameter are dependent on the air-conditioner's capacity and type of refrigerant used
Installation
Limit the distance between the indoor and outdoor units to keep the length of the connecting pipes as short as possible.
Ensure that pipes are well insulated. Where insulation is not possible, use a cork tape to cover up any exposed pipe
Do not install 2 or more pipes within a single insulation sleeve
Limit the number of elbow joints and bends.
Ensure that a proper drainage system has been put in place. Drainpipes should be installed with a descending gradient.
Ensure joints are properly tightened and free from defects to prevent refrigerant leakage.
Maintenances
Check for leaks in the piping joints.
ADDITIONAL TIPS FOR AIRCON INSTALLATION
Always engage a BCA-certified installer. A list of certified installers can be found at www.bca.gov.sg/citi/trained_inst.asp.
After installation, always retain the installation manual for future reference.
For more details on proper installation, operation and maintenance and use of your air-conditioning system, please refer to the units accompanying operation manual.
Engage a certified installer to carry out periodic inspections and maintenance on your air-conditioner system. Routine checks may include:
Recharging refrigerant
Checking and repairing leaks
Chemical cleaning
